A new award will be named after a Korean chief of the World Health Organization, Lee Jongwook, who died last year of a sudden illness.
The J-W Lee Memorial Prize will go to two winners from 2009 at the world health watchdog's annual general assembly in May.
The award's two categories are welfare and medicine.
Each recipient will get 100-thousand dollars from the Korea International Foundation for Health and Development.
The World Health Organization says the award will commemorate Dr. Lee's lifelong devotion and commitment to people's health.
