New Year celebrations aren't exempt to COVID-19 social distancing rules in South Korea so this year's festivities will feel a lot different than normal.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government says the ringing of the Bosingak bell in central Seoul will be online, cancelling the in-person event for the first time in 67 years.
The ceremony will be available on the city government's website.
Major year-end holiday tourist destinations have also been shut, with events for viewing the new year's first sunrise replaced with livestreams.
