The South Korean government will lift the Protection of Military Bases and Installations Act, which imposed restrictions on some 100 million square meters of protected land near military facilities.
The defense ministry says that, effective January 19th, development in areas close to military facilities will no longer require advance approval.
This also affects around 15-million square-meters of land across 13 regions, including areas in Incheon, Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do Province and Gangwon-do Province.
The ministry said the decision was made for the tranquil coexistence of military facilities and local residents.
