Biden nominates veteran diplomat Wendy Sherman for No. 2 position at State Dept.

U.S. President-elect Joe Biden has nominated veteran diplomat and scholar Wendy Sherman to serve in the number-two position at the State Department, likely meaning a more traditional approach to diplomacy on the Korean Peninsula.
Under President Bill Clinton, Sherman served as policy coordinator for North Korea in the last few years of the administration, and met face-to-face with the regime's late former leader Kim Jong-il when she went to Pyeongyang accompanying Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
Last August, Sherman remarked at a seminar that the U.S. needs to rebuild ties with its allies South Korea and Japan, and she said China wants to use North Korea as a chip at the poker table in its dealings with America.
If approved, she would likely serve under Biden's nominee for Secretary of State, Tony Blinken, who also takes a traditional approach.
